LITURGY

What is liturgy?

What a remarkable word.  Liturgy.  But what is it?  If you have spent any time in a traditional church setting, you may be familiar with the term.  In greek, leitourgia, it means “service” or “ministry”.  More specifically a “work of the people”.  In this space we want to convey these prayers, petitions and pleas as a work FOR the people.  These liturgical works are meant to guide and aide your daily prayer time or gathered family worship time.  We, as a family, have been inspired my McKelvey’s work Every Moment Holy, which is a collection of liturgies for the every day life.  In this vein, we want to write and share our every day prayers and petitions with you.  We pray they will be useful to your daily walk and in your communion with Our Gracious Father.

A friend once shared with me that spoken prayers of the moment certainly hold great power and these are minute to minute, daily needs.  But, there is something reverent and pausing about a prayer that has been written down and held.  No less or more powerful, just a gift and reminder to our hearts the things we have cried out to God for and the hope we have in giving Him our all in petition and plea.

The Life Abundant Liturgies

Every Moment Holy

by Douglas McKelvey is a book of liturgies for the ordinary events of daily life–liturgies such as “A Liturgy for Feasting with Friends” or “A Liturgy for Laundering”. These are ways of reminding us that our lives are shot through with sacred purpose even when, especially when, we are too busy or too caught up in our busyness to notice. Purchase yours here.
